Inyo National Forest
Camp Review
We camped at an established dispersed site on a forest road off Owens River Road near Mammoth Lakes.
The site was surrounded by tall (and alive) trees, with lots of bushes behind us. Because we arrived after dark, we did not realize we had two neighbors, both about 100 yards down the road.
The site was level and quiet, with no trash around.
The road wasn’t too far away from Highway 395, so there was some road noise, but not too loud.
I had one bar of LTE on Verizon that was more stable than it seemed.
What Happened?
After a long day adventuring, we wanted to find a camp spot near Mammoth Lakes. Instead of going to a site where I had camped before, we decided to try to find a new site near Owens River Road.
We headed down three or four forest roads and had only found small pullouts, so we kept at it until we came across a nice level spot. We parked, climbed into the camper, and fell asleep after brushing our teeth.
In the morning, instead of waking up early for an early start, we slept to the tune of 9 hours of sleep. We are so lucky to have a comfortable camping setup where we can get more sleep camping than at home!
