Castle Rock State Park
Climb Review:
Castle Rock State Park is a classic location for bouldering.
I brought my kids to see if they wanted to try some V0 rated climbs at Mr Magoo Boulder and at Parking Lot Rock.
The routes ended up being too difficult for the girls, but we had a ton of fun scampering around the rocks.
The park was a little busy, but once we got out of the parking lot area, there were stretches where it was just me and the girls on the rocks. We arrive at 10:30am on a Sunday and took the last available parking spot.
We found the park clean with no trash to be seen.
What I Learned:
The girls found the rock to be a bit too slippery without climbing shoes. They also thought the rock was too cold for their hands. I’ll try with them on a warmer day with better shoes.
I found the routes published on Mountain Project website to be harder to find than I thought there would be. I ended up finding a few routes, like on Mr Magoo Boulder, but some of the other ones... not so much.
What Happened?
The girls wanted to hike in a forest, so we ended up going to Castle Rock to see if we could go bouldering. The park was as lovely as I remembered, and the rocks were fun to scamper around. We ended up using the crash pad as a picnic blanket, and had a great time exploring the rocks.
