Glass Beach
Climb Review:
We were hoping to see a beach that was covered in smooth stones of glass, but what we found was a rocky/sandy beach, with rocky structures rising 5-10 feet.
The parking lot was huge, and free.
The beach was clean, although I did find one piece of sharp glass, that I cleaned up.
I bouldered three main rock structures, which was right of Glass Beach. I don’t think there are any official routes, but I would estimate them from V-easy to V0. There were a few slightly harder variations, but I couldn’t climb them very well without climbing shoes.
Friends Made:
We hiked this trail with Scarlett and Jo. We also ran into Raiah’s family, who happened to have sat down right next to our beach blanket! How serendipitous that we met Kaylee’s classmate 200 miles away from San Jose!
What Happened?
After stopping by a MacDonalds for chicken nuggets, fries, and a slurpee, we arrived at Glass Beach. We scarfed down the food with haste in the bed of the truck, and headed to the Glass Beach, hoping to see a rainbow of color. What we found was a regular looking beach, where beach combers were finding tiny pebbles of smooth glass. What we saw was so drab compared to what Google images showed and it would have been a colossal disappointment if it weren’t for the happy kids who saw a sandy beach they could play on.
We setup a blanket on a sandy section of the beach being ignored by the beach combers. We happened to have sat down right next to Raiah’s family!
After conversing with Raiah’s family, our group split up to enjoy the beach in our own way. Kaylee and Scarlett combed the beach for glass pebbles. Jo chilled out and people watched. Anna combed the beach and bouldered a little bit. I bouldered the three structures from all various angles. I must have topped out more than a dozen times. I also tried to traverse the largest structure, but I got stumped on a single section, where I really missed my climbing shoes.
After a few hours, we decided it was taco time, and we headed back to our campsite.
