Indian Joe Caves

Climb Review:

  • The boulders at Indian Joe Caves were really fun to climb.

  • There aren’t that many routes, but each bouldering route is pretty long. I would say it’s a short rock climbing route kind of long.

  • There were a few other people rock climbing and everyone seemed pretty friendly.

  • There was poison oak in various places, so we had to be careful around them.

  • Although small, once you get into the rock formation, it’s almost like a maze and is fun to climb around.

What Happened?

4 miles, 3 hrs 42 mins, 712 ft of ascent

Gene and I decided to go bouldering together, and for our inaugural meet, we decided on Sunol as it sits at about the half way point for us.

We met at the parking lot and walked less than two miles to the Indian Joe Caves. We found the caves to be a bit too tall for us to climb without protection, but we still had lots of fun climbing around and creating new routes for ourselves on smaller boulders. We had so much fun, in fact, that we plan to meet at different bouldering locations and climb together again.
