Coyote Hills Regional Park

Trail Review:

  • This trail reminded me a lot of Alviso. There were the similar types of pools along the bay with the bike path constructed on top of levees.

  • The trail is almost completely flat, hard-packed dirt. There were a few parts where it was gravel, but even that was hard-packed and easy to ride.

  • The views, once on the east side of Coyote Hills, is interesting. You can see the west side of the bay, the Dumbarton Bridge, tons of wild life along the bay, and the east side of the bay reflecting off of the calm pools.

  • The trails are completely exposed with no trees what-so-ever.

  • The trail that runs parallel to Highway 84 feels very sketchy to ride, as the cars speeding along 84 makes them sound closer, but they’re a fence away and not a threat.

The Song of Achilles

What Happened?

14.6 miles, 1 hr 30 min, 243 ft of ascent

After I completed my Half Moon Bay ride, I wanted to ride a bit more, so I headed over to Coyote Hills. I had ridden here 9 years ago, but instead of riding just within the park, I decided to head out to the levees, and ride along a small road parallel to Highway 84 on the way back.

The ride was pleasant and uncrowded. The only negatives about this trail was that there are a few portions where the odors from some of the pools were unpleasant, but those went by pretty fast.
