Calero County Park

Hike Review:

  • We parked at the Main Entrance parking lot and hiked the Los Cerritos Trail.

  • The Los Cerritos Trail is a double track, hard packed dirt road that winds up and around the hills at Calero County Park. Because of the trail, the dirt turned into slick mud—we had to be extra careful with our footing.

  • There wasn’t much tree cover at all.

  • There was a running event where participants could run either 5k, 10k, or 50k. We ran across a lady who was less than a mile from finishing the 50k, which was inspiring to the girls. Other than that, we didn’t come across another soul until the parking lot.

What I Learned

  • My water resistant pants soaked through pretty quickly. In the future, I think I’ll wear a waterproof layer on top. Relatedly, my light waterproof jacket totally soaked through—I’ll try to revive the DWR layer and hopefully it goes well.

  • I had a great time shooting with my 56mm prime lens, which I hadn’t touched in the longest time.

What Happened?

1.9 miles, 1 hr 17 min, 338 ft of ascent

We wanted to go out for a rainy hike, so we drove to Calero County Park. The rain first started off as a light mist, but it fluctuated from that to a decent downpour during the hike. GaiaGPS mapped out a service road as a hike trail, so when it came clear to us that we could not walk a small loop, we turned around and walked back to our car using a shortcut trail. It was good timing too as Anna was starting to get cold.

At the car, we dried ourselves using a towel, and headed off to 99 Ranch to get some well-earned yummy snacks and drinks.
