Indian Well Cave

Hike Review

  • On our way east to Valentine Cave, we stopped by Indian Well Cave.

  • This intermediate cave starts off with high ceilings and a flat floor but then leads to a section that requires crawling.

  • The cave was only 91 meters long, but it did have a separate exit from the entrance, which we used to get back to the surface. The exit was near the administrative buildings, which meant a short walk back to the car.

What Happened?

We were on a roll with caves at this point and wanted to explore more of the intermediate and expert caves. However, we needed to start driving home, so we headed from the Cave Loop to Valentine Cave. On the way, we saw that Indian Well Cave was on the way, so we stopped and quickly explored the cave.

While we did not see anything new that made this cave stand out amongst the other caves we saw that day, we did enjoy the crawling exit of the cave that we used to get to the surface. Once we got out, we just needed to get back to the surface level (as the exit put us in a shallow crater of sorts), then walk back to the car less than a quarter mile away.
