Mission Peak
Hike Review:
I hiked the sunrise here last year, and I don’t have much to add to that review.
Because we hiked Mission Peak on a weekday (with a night end), I probably saw the fewest people I’ve ever seen at Mission Peak. Even my sunrise hike had more hikers on it.
Friends:
Gene organized this sunset hike and friends old (Jerry, Johnson, Pranay) and new (Charles) showed up. It was really nice getting out on a social hike and catch up with them over a period of a few hours.
What Happened?
It was the full moon on April 6th and given how much Gene loves the full moon, he organized a sunset hike where we’d also be able to appreciate her in all her glory. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to see the moon due to overcast skies, but we had a great time in spite of that.
We met up at the Stanford Ave entrance and made our way up to the peak. We hiked at a pretty slow pace at the beginning, but once Charles joined us, he and I led the way as we were more experienced hikers with a faster pace. With a quarter mile to go, we stopped at the final bench and waited for the rest of the group before we made our way to the peak in force.
At the peak, we hung around, took pictures (of ourselves and another big group). We had missed the sunset by a bit, but we barely noticed, as the conversations were too engrossing. Charles and I paired off again and made it down the quickest, followed by Gene and Jerry, with Pranay and Johnson pulling rear guard duty. We then headed off to one of the few restaurants that were still open—Pho Mai #1.
