St. Joseph’s Hill Open Space Preserve

Hike Review:

  • We hiked a balloon route via the Jones, Novitiate, and Manzanita Trail.

  • All three trails were pretty similar. They were fire-road like trails with lots of loose rock. The trail was a bit slippery at times, but not too bad. There was very little shade on the trail.

  • I found plenty of parking at the trailhead, even on a late Saturday morning.

  • The trails were very clean, with no trash to be seen. However, we did spot dog poop, since these trails are dog-friendly.

  • There were portable toilets at the trailhead.

What Happened?

3.4 miles, 1 hr 34 mins, 722 ft of ascent

We were hoping to hike in the rain, but alas, we did not get lucky. It wasn’t all bad though, as the weather wasn’t too hot for this short, exposed hike.

The girls did great hiking up, and there were enough people on the trail to keep our conversations lively as we talked about various subjects that popped up. As for those other people, there were lots of hikers, as well as mountain bikers... actually, we even saw a unicycle!
