Summit Lake Loop
Hike Review
The girls and I hiked the Summit Lake Trail in a loop.
We found the single track trail to be hot and dusty or wet and humid, with very little area between.
There are two bridges on this trail and both were damaged. On the first, I had to take off my shoes and socks so that I could help the girls get over the bridge. The second one had some stable downed trees that allowed us to very carefully walk on them.
In the swampy parts of the hike, there were tons of mosquitos. Both Kaylee and I got bit multiple times even though we did not stop. There was also a territorial bee that terrorized us for a few minutes.
The trail links two campgrounds, one north and one south of the lake. They were closed for the season, which meant they were used as picnic areas for the rest of us. The bathrooms were open and the trash bins were lined and usable.
The lake was pretty to look at. It was visible from all parts of the loop.
What Happened?
We stopped by Summit Lake for lunch. Afterwards we took a stroll around the lake, which turned out to be a bit spicier than expected due to the collapsed bridges.
The walk got us a bit hot, so we headed off to Manzanita Lake, where we hoped that it’d be a bit cooler (it wasn’t). So we got ice cream instead, and headed off to Subway Cave.
