The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park

Hike Review:

  • We hiked the Redwood Drive Trail from George’s Picnic Area parking lot.

  • I found the trail to be pretty easy, though when it started pouring rain, it did make the hike down a bit more interesting (trying to avoid slipping or stepping in the puddles). At the top of the trail, there was a nice vista point.

  • There was shade throughout the entire trail.

What I Learned:

  • It was my first time trying out my Marmot rainproof jacket, and it worked as well as advertised—it was comfy and it kept out all the water. Unlike all previous jackets I’ve ever owned, no amount of water would saturate the cloth.

I wore my water resistant pants, and while it worked well to start, it couldn’t keep up once it really started pouring. Still, my legs were only a bit damp, so it wasn’t a huge deal.

Friends:

I hiked this trail with Kyle, which we tackled after sharing a delicious pesto, ricotta pizza.

What Happened?

2 miles, 1 hr, 559 ft of ascent

I wanted to hike with Kyle, so we found this short trail near his house. The forecasted rain made this trail a bit more fun and a lot more beautiful, which lent a calming feeling, at least for me. The view was okay at the top, but probably wasn’t worth the hike (if that’s the only reason one hiked this trail). We wanted to go hike another loop, but cut it short due to Kyle not having the right equipment for the rain. Still, it was a nice jaunt out on an easy Sunday.
