Gold Bluffs Beach Campground
MVP
Project M Camper—This was my first trip in the camper and I fell in love with it. It’s was so easy to setup, and it provided the perfect space for me to cook, eat, and sleep while being protected from the rain.
Camp Review:
Gold Bluffs Beach Campground is right on the beach. I stayed at site 13, which meant that I had direct access to the beach.
The facilities are great, with clean bathrooms with plenty of toilet paper and soap. There’s even hot water.
Trash receptacles were placed in convenient spots and were not full.
To get to the campground, I did have to drive about 5 miles in rough road, with pot holes all over the place. It wasn’t a big deal (actually made it kind of fun) in my truck, but for passenger vehicles, I can see it being a problem.
The campground is placed in a convenient location, with shopping just a few miles from the campsite, and Fern Canyon less than 2 miles from the famed Fern Canyon.
AT&T has strong LTE signal, while T-Mobile had no signal.
What I Learned:
The camper is now waterproof, after I put a good amount of silicone around the window that faced the front of the car (I did this before this trip).
The camper’s walls are made of this plastic that’s kind of slick, so much so that gaffer tape refused to stick to it (for the window covers).
There is so much condensation inside the camper. This is expected, since it was raining all day and I didn’t have a chance to air it out. It just means I’ll have to air it out when I get back to San Jose.
The house battery that I got (EcoFlow Delta Mini) is amazing. My favorite use for it is using it to cook on an induction stove, which boils water faster than a propane stove.
The cigarette lighter plug I installed on the bed works well to recharge my Delta Mini while I drive.
The mattress also felt harder than I’d liked. I may have to switch out the upper body portion with a medium density foam.

What Happened?
I spent two nights at Gold Bluffs Campground. On the first night, I arrived after sunset, which made the 5 mile drive from Highway 1 a bit more bumpy and much more dark that I’d preferred. I was glad to have my LED high beam lights, which made the road more easy to see.
When I got to the campground, I could immediately hear the roar of the surf. I was able to setup the camper in less than 5 minutes and cooked myself a quick dinner. I then kept myself busy with photos and journaling and went to sleep with ear plugs (for the surf).
I didn’t sleep particularly well—I woke up every few hours. Still, I woke up rested and excited for the day. I went for a hike in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
When I returned, I found the campground still enveloped in rain, although when the rain stopped for the sunset, it led to a jaw-dropping scene.
I really enjoyed this campground and plan to return in the future with friends or my girls.
