MacKerricher State Park

Camp Review:

  • We stayed at site 32 and found it to be huge with lots of bushes and trees affording us privacy. There was space with 1 large tent and another small tent.

  • The site was clean and free from trash.

  • The site has a picnic table, and a fire ring (with an integrated grill).

  • The bathrooms were clean with hand soap next to the sink. One sink in the mens room even had hot water!

  • There were also showers which cost $1 per 5 minutes. When I showered, it ran for more than 7 minutes, before I turned it off because I was done.

Friends Made:

Jo and Scarlett came with us, and it was awesome deepening our friendship with them.

What Happened?

The girls wanted to go camping to somewhere colder than the bay area, and not too far away, so MacKerricher State Park was chosen for this three night camping trip. We also invited our rock climbing friends Jo and Scarlett, to go camping with us.

We spent the camping trip having tons of fun, eating good food, and enjoying the Mendocino coast. The best part of the trip was probably the weather, where the high everyday was around 60 degrees and the low was about 50 degrees. This was in great contrast to our home, where the high was 90+ degrees when we left.

We spent the first evening watching the sunset, the second day enjoying near by parks and beaches, and the third day chilling out at our camp site. The third day was also the coldest day with barely an hour where we could see the sun. On the second day, a funny thing happened when we took a walk on a windy path next to the lake. A dog started to follow us and came back to the campsite with us. We made an impromptu leash out of some rope that I had in my truck, and headed off to find a ranger to assist. After flagging down a custodian who was calling a ranger, the dog owner’s neighbors found us and took the dog to the rightful owner.

In regards to food, we had no one to envy, as every meal seemed to be tastier than the last—hot dogs, omelet sandwich, chicken wings, tacos, inari sushi with fish cake soup, foil pack, tri-tip, and bagels.

After three nights, we said our goodbyes to MacKerricher and each other and headed home.
