Sanborn County Park
MVP
NatureHike 3 Person Tent—Due to the numerous mosquitos eating the youngest and me alive, we hung out in the tent as soon as dinner was over. It’s spacious and not too heavy. A real winner.
Camp Review:
See my previous backpacking trip to Sanborn. We camped at the exact same spot.
This time, however, there were tons of mosquitos.
What I Learned:
I thought that I had forgotten the mosquito repellent lotion, but found it after we had retreated to the tent. Hopefully, once I have my backpack dialed in, I won’t switch them so often, so I’ll know where everything is!
This campsite has running water, which was awesome as we did not have to carry much water at all.
What Happened?
The girls told me that they wanted to camp at Sanborn the last time we hiked here together. So, I booked a site (we had fancied site #15, so I just chose #33), at the first free weekend we had.
The hike up to the site was a bit challenging for the girls, but the upgraded backpacks, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and pillows really allowed them to carry everything they needed to have a good night (everything except for food and tent).
It would have been picture perfect if it weren’t for the mosquitos. After a delicious dinner for the girls (ReadyWise’s Chicken Teriyaki was meh, and the girls loved their MountainMike’s Spaghetti), we retreated to our tent and had a relaxing evening of reading, journaling, video games, and snacking.
We all went to sleep easily, even though the neighboring group site was pretty loud. We woke up, cleaned up, and headed home before the mosquitos got a chance to bite us a few more times.
