Yosemite Westlake Campground & RV Park

IMG_4584.jpeg

This was the closest RV campground to Yosemite that had a vacancy when I booked this trip. Over the three nights we stayed here, we enjoyed the snow at Yosemite National Park at the following locations:

The place itself was not the best. There’s no privacy, each site is as small as possible, and I wasn’t blown away by the mood of this place. I wish there was an alternative, but given the proximity to Yosemite—and the availability of hook-ups for the RV—I’m not sure there’s a better place to stay in the winter. I’m sure I’ll be back here, since the girls loved this trip, and still talk about how much fun they had in the snow.

What I Learned:

  • The town of Greeley Hill only has a solid cell connection via AT&T. T-mobile has no connection what-so-ever here.

  • I really like the Greeley Hill Market, and they’ve been through a lot since I last visited. There was a fire that burned down parts of the market, and so, they were closed. There was a sign that said they’d reopen soon though, so I hope they come back. Their sandwiches from the deli were delicious.

Camp Review:

  • The camp, at least in the winter, isn’t much to look at, as each space is a gravel lot with minimal space besides the parking space for the car and trailer. There is no trees or bushes between sites, and has no personality.

  • They do, however, offer free hot showers (with soap and shampoo) in the communal bathroom, which felt amazing after a day in the snow.

  • The parking lot isn’t well marked, and I got a little lost trying to find my spot.

  • They have full hook-ups: power, water, and sewage.

  • The water pipe was well insulated, so the water connection to the RV worked just fine. I did, however, disconnect and reconnect the water pipe overnight, as it was below freezing, and the water hose I was using was not insulated.

  • The Wi-Fi that comes with the campground is glacial, and the access point is pointless. I had to stand within 10 ft of the access to the access point to utilize internet that couldn’t have been more than 100Kbps down. I wish they’d just told me that they didn’t have Wi-Fi, so that I wouldn’t have bothered to try.

  • I would still rate this campground well, given it’s close location to Yosemite. It saved me an hour of driving compared to the closest public RV park, Horseshoe Bend Recreation Area.

  • Also, the town of Greeley Hill is really cute, with a great BBQ restaurant (9 Diamonds BBQ).
