Shannon Road Loop

Trail Review:

  • I made a balloon style loop by riding Hicks Rd, Shannon Rd, Kennedy Rd, and riding back on Shannon Rd.

  • Hicks Road had no shoulder in most parts, but the cars were used to bicycle traffic and gave generous room when passing.

  • Kennedy Road started off with a sharp climb (compared to Hicks anyways), but the climb stops around the Mt El Sombroso trailhead and it’s a fun downhill until Los Gatos. Much like Hicks, there’s no shoulder, but again, the drivers are awfully nice.

  • Shannon Road was really similar to Kennedy Road. The difference is that because I rode it west to east, the climb was gentler, and the decent was steeper.

What I Learned:

  • I was slightly worried that the busy afternoon traffic would make this ride hazardous, but there weren’t many cars at all. The cars that were present were very nice about giving me 5+ ft of clearance when passing.

Media Consumed:

  • Rogue Protocol—finished!

What Happened?

15.1 miles, 1 hr 34 mins, 1175 ft of ascent

I had driven Kennedy Road a few years before I restarted my cycling adventure, and staring at the map a few weeks ago, I remembered how green this road was. Because I wanted a 20 or so mile bike ride, I decided to ride this loop today.

Honestly, I just had a great relaxing ride and it was a perfect way to get a little exercise in as my body recovered from a long hike the day before. On top of my relaxed attitude, the fun book made the time pass mighty quickly.
