Cyclops Skull Arch

_DSF6522-Enhanced.jpg

Cyclops Skull Arch was the last point of interest I stopped by at Alabama Hills. Actually, because I was in the middle of searching for a camping spot, I almost didn’t stop to see it. I’m so glad I did stop by though, as it was the coolest!

Because there are no official trails that lead to Cyclops Skull Arch, I made my own trail. Once I was there, I was surprised to discover that someone had pitched a tent right next to this spot. When I peeked over while trying to get a photo, I noticed a well used fire ring—this must mean that this is a spot that you’re allowed to camp at (otherwise, the Rangers would have removed it and put up a sign). I’m just not used to seeing people camping near a landmark.

What I Learned:

  • I didn’t know you can setup a campsite right at the arch! If I’m backpacking at Alabama Hills, I want to stay here next time.

Hike Review:

  • I didn’t have my mapping app active, so I’m not sure exactly how much I walked, but it was about a quarter mile hike to Cyclops arch with almost no elevation gain.

  • There are no trails to the Cyclops Skull Arch, and so you kind of just make your way there following your map.

  • The arch was way cooler than Mobius Arch, and was definitely worth seeing.
