Hike Review:

  • At the north end of the preserve, there is a permit-only parking area and a short hike to a vista point.

  • The trail is hard packed, not dusty, and is partially shaded.

  • This is one of the cleanest trails I’ve ever been on.

  • The view at the vista point isn’t worth the hassle of getting a permit.

What Happened?

I spotted a short trail while I was browsing my topo map, and it led me to find that El Sereno Open Space Preserve had a permit-only parking that gave access to a short trail to a Vista Point. I drove to the gate, used the gate combination shown on the permit to gain access, and parked the car.

The hike was a super easy and short trail. The vista point was a large viewing area that felt like a 10x bigger version of the vista point at Villa Montalvo. The view of San Jose was nice, but really, it wasn’t worth the drive.
