Guadalupe Oak Grove Park

The girls requested a trail that was close and didn’t require too much of a drive, so we came to Guadalupe Oak Grove Park and enjoyed a peaceful hike.

We made a figure eight loop, and had lots of fun on this hike. My eldest got to discover these “secret” points of interest at the park, and that kept her engaged. My youngest got to snack on these delicious potato chips. I got to spend time with my kids outdoors.

During the hike, we found these hill recesses, where with a little bit of scampering, we could get to. It was fun to find these places and my eldest loved it, as these types of places make her feel safe and became a kind of a “castle” for her.

What I Learned:

  • In spite of COVID, the park bathrooms were open and clean!

  • There are many alcoves that require scampering to get to—off-trail and fun.

  • There used to be a trail to the peak on the south-west portion of the park, but it’s been closed down due to erosion.

Hike Review:

  • It’s a cute park in the middle of a suburban neighborhood.

  • There are lots of well-maintained trails with many beautiful oak trees.

  • While there is no stunning vista, there are many interesting things to see. The wooded path in the middle is just straight up gorgeous, there’s a big boulder you can climb up, and there are several recesses that are off-trail and require a bit of scampering to get to.

  • Besides the northern most loop, the rest of the trails are well shaded.

  • The northern portion of the park is hilly, with the southern portion being totally flat.
