Maisie’s Peak
MVP:
iPhone 12 + GaiaGPS—Because both Madrone Group Area and Sycamore Group Area were closed, so I ended up parking on the side of the road on the intersection of Stevens Canyon Road and Mt. Eden Road. GaiaGPS made it so easy to hike to the trailhead. It also allowed me to audible and hike an alternate route than what I had planned when I found myself wanting to hike a little bit more.
Hike Review:
Fremont Older Open Space Preserve is a well maintained park with well marked trails.
I really enjoyed the Lookout Trail as it was nicely shaded and clean. I also enjoyed the Wedding Trail, which was clean. I did not enjoy the rest of the trails, as they were dusty with lots of animal dung (horse and cattle).
The view from Maisie’s Peak was pretty, though, because it overlooks the rest of Fremont Older, I think Hunter’s Point had a better view.
What I Learned:
I learned that Madrone and Sycamore Group Areas close. Though because there is pull out parking on Stevens Canyon Road, it wasn’t too bad. On the way out, I did see that Cooley Picnic Area might have been open for parking.

What Happened?
I’ve been itching to go on a hike, so I checked out Maisie’s Peak via the Lookout Trail. The Lookout Trail is all elevation gain, but it’s all switch backs, so there weren’t any slippery slopes. I didn’t enjoy hiking the Vista Loop Trail due to how dusty it was, but the view from Maisie’s Peak made up for it. I then audibled by hiking back via the Wedding Trail, which was a really nice, hard-packed trail. I made it back down right at sunset, and enjoyed the quiet drive home.
