McBride Springs

Hike Review:

  • As a part of my avalanche class, we hiked up this trail to find a spot to dig a snow pit.

  • The trail was picturesque, with trees lining both sides of the trail.

  • The incline was steady and the snow wasn’t too soft, which made for a perfect trail for snow shoeing.

  • Because of the trees, the path was a low-risk path for avalanches.

What Happened?

2.3 miles, 2 hrs 56 mins, 564 ft of ascent

For the afternoon portion of the second day of avalanche level 1 class, we went up the mountain via a path near McBridge Springs. Everyone else was on ski or splitboard, but I kept up just fine in my snowshoes (on the way up). We dug a snow pit and learned how to test the snow for stability, then headed back down to the trailhead.
