Reinhardt Redwoods Regional Park

Hike Review:

  • I hiked the Graham Trail, Madrone Trail, Starflower Trail, Tres Sendas, West Ridge Trail, and Roberts Ridge Trail.

  • Graham and West Ridge Trails were basically fire roads that was nice and wide.

  • Madrone Trail and Starflower Trails were almost all downhill but I did not have any issues with slipping (even though it had rained just hours before) due to the rocks and roots lending lots of friction. These two trails were the most photogenic, due to the various types of trees (madrone, redwood, oak, and eucalyptus).

  • Tres Sendas and West Ridge Trails were where I gained the elevation back. Tres Sendas trail was pretty steep and I found myself definitely feeling the hike. Still, there were tons of trees and they were a welcome distraction.

  • There were tons of dog owners hiking and most dogs were off-leash. I only spotted a few dog poops on the trail, which was nice.

  • I only saw one mountain biker on the trail. They definitely looked like they were having a great time.

  • All the trails were hard packed, so there wasn’t too much mud to contend with.

  • Parking was easy, with tons of spots, though it did cost a nominal fee ($6).

What Happened?

4.1 miles, 1 hr 53 mins, 1073 ft of ascent

I had heard about Reinhardt Redwoods Regional Park and its beauty during or right after rain, so I made it a point to hike it with the perfect preceding weather. Actually, the forecast told me that the rain would stop before lunch, but there was one final shower as I ate my mushroom pizza.

On the trail, I first headed to a viewpoint marked “The Grand View” on GaiaGPS. I was sorely misled, however, as there was no grand view to be seen. But on the rest of the hike, I saw more than what I thought I would see. Instead of just the redwoods (which were still my favorite), I saw many other types of trees, and not just a few, but a dense forest of them. There were streams of water gurgling next to the trails, and I just found this park to be a delight.

After I came back home, I discovered that you could ride a nice loop around most of Reinhardt Redwoods Regional Park with a mountain bike, so I can’t wait till I come back to do that. Though, I think I’ll do that one on a drier day.
