Senador Mine Loop—Night Hike

Hike Review

  • I’ve hiked here more than a dozen times now and this is the closest matching previous hike.

  • It was a night hike, so we only saw one other soul on the trail at the very beginning; otherwise, we had the entire trail to ourselves.

  • Because it was so quiet at night, we were able to practice soft walking and hear a cacophony of almost silence.

What Happened?

2.3 miles, 55 mins, 379 ft of ascent

Cassie and I were looking to do a night hike and Almaden Quicksilver was a good target as it is so close. We hopped in our car and at the Sendaor Mine Trailhead in about 15 minutes.

We started a bit later than we had originally planned, so we started in the dark—we had brought headlamps, so that wasn’t an issue. We quietly hiked while holding hands—spending a quiet night hike with my love with no one else around was wonderful.

We didn’t have a set plan for what we would hike, so we just took it by ear and found our way around the park to complete a short loop. We even messed around by walking up a boulder and calling it a no-hands rock-climbing adventure.

With our lungs full of cooling night air and our brains full of endorphins, we walked back to our car and drove back to our home to catch some Zs.
