Loch Lomond
MVP
Sunblock—I thought I had forgotten to bring sunblock, but realized that there’s a bottle always in my daypack. It saved me and my daughter from having to wear our long sleeves in hot weather.
Lake Review:
Loch Lomond is a wonderful lake in the Santa Cruz mountains. The parking lot is a bit small, but they have plenty of overflowing parking.
The rental prices are reasonable, and we had a great time exploring the lake.
There were lots of people fishing, though I’m not sure how successful they were.
This is a water reservoir, so we weren’t allowed to touch the water (or go swimming, etc).
There were lots of wildlife, including ducks, geese, hawk/eagle-like bird, dragon flies, bees, etc.
What I Learned:
I tried a paddleboat for the first time and although it’s a great exercise for legs (basically feels like a bike going perpetually up-hill), but the ride is unsatisfying as it is slow as a sloth.
Cheddar Cheese flavored Doritos are just delicious, especially on an empty stomach.
What Happened?
With my eldest at a boat camp this week, I brought my youngest to Loch Lomond to go boating. This reservoir does not allow people to bring their own boats (without expensive permits), so we just rented a boat. I wanted to try a rowboat, but my daughter wanted a paddleboat, so we tried that. I got used to the paddleboat pretty quickly and while it turned out to be an amazing exercise, we were really bored at how slow it went.
We visited the northern most tip of the lake, then paddled back to the dock.
On the way back, we had to paddle into the wind. The good news is that because the boat was so heavy, the wind did not seem to affect the speed of the boat too much. The bad news is that because the boat was so heavy, the wind did not seem to affect the speed of the boat too much. The wind actually felt really nice as by this time, I had a good amount of sweat going.
