Redinger Lake
With how relentless the winds had been the previous 14 hours, we thought our trip to Redinger Lake was a bust. But somehow, our fortunes changed and we found ourselves pumping up the packraft with a mattress inflator in the parking lot of the boat ramp.
The girls loved the new packraft. Unlike the inflatable kayaks and stand up boards that I’ve owned before, this packraft fits all of us comfortably. This packraft is also a whale of a boat, so although it’s slow, it’s stable—stability happens to be the quality that they appreciate the most.
We launched the boat and paddled straight across the lake to a dried up waterfall. They tried their hand at paddling, but they got bored and didn’t really do much of it the rest of the way. We explored a few of the beaches on the south-side of the lake, then looped back to the boat ramp. I would have liked to gone a bit further, but it was getting close to lunch, so we decided to go.
It proved to be the right decision, as the winds started picking right back up as we packed up the packraft.
What I Learned:
This was the first time I’ve tried out the Aqua Xtreme X2 packraft and it works beautifully for me and my kids.
Because the packraft only weighs 6.5 lbs, I carried it without an issue down to the dock and we launched off with no drama.
It was also the first time I tried out the ADVANCED ELEMENTS Ultralite Kayak Paddle. It works way better than the ones that came with the Intex inflatable kayaks.
Sometimes, 10 minutes can make all the difference from 10mph winds to zero.
As long as it’s above 55 degrees, I should wear swimming shorts instead of long pants.
Lake Review:
The water is pristine.
The boat ramp is clean, with a floating dock.
This lake is not super popular—we had the lake to ourselves.
Because the lake is not very popular, it was also the quietest lake I’ve ever been to.
There isn’t too many points of interest on the lake itself, but there were plenty of beaches on the south side to checkout.
