Eldorado Dispersed Camping
Camp Review:
I parked my car at an established dispersed campsite in the Eldorado National Forest.
The camp spot was relatively flat, and a few pieces of leveling blocks got the car flat enough for the night.
There was a fire ring that was filled with broken glass, burnt aluminum cans, and unburnt cardboard. I packed it all out, but it’s disappointing to see fellow outdoors people abusing the environment so.
During the 11 hrs I was there, no cars passed by the road, and it was absolutely quiet (except for animals).
There was 4 bars of LTE on Verizon, and the same amount of bars on AT&T LTE.
Friends Made
Harmon camped with me and we had great conversations on the car ride and at the campsite. I was very happy that he accompanied me, as it allowed me to get to know my godson better.
What Happened?
Harmon and I planned to hike and raft at Salt Springs Reservoir the day after, so we needed to camp somewhere near by. I found a few entries on freecampsites.net that seemed to indicate that there were more than a few dispersed campsites directly north of the reservoir. As we were driving to one of the sites, we found a bunch of sites and picked one that looked flat and inviting.
Setting up the camper took no time at all, and after brushing our teeth, we chatted a bit before turning our backs on each other and going to sleep. I slept decently well throughout the night and woke up at 6am feeling good.
We packed up and headed off to the reservoir through forest roads that were surprisingly paved.
