Rancho Corral de Tierra

Hike Review:

  • I hiked the French Trail up and the Clipper Ridge Trail down to the car.

  • Both trails were exposed with no shade the entire time. There were very few trees, but lots of bushes.

  • The trail was hard packed dirt. In many parts it was single track, which could be a problem if there were many mountain bikers riding. Thankfully, when I was there I only saw three cyclists.

  • It was very windy almost the entire hike.

  • Almost the entire way, there were blackberry bushes with ripening fruit, which was delicious.

  • There’s a small parking, with additional option of parking in front of houses near by.

  • There are no bathrooms nor trash bins.

  • I had strong cell signal for the entire duration of the hike.

Friends Made:

I hiked this trail with Jo and it was fun deepening our friendship with fun conversations.

What Happened?

3.3 miles, 1 hr 40 mins, 901 ft of ascent

Jo and I wanted to go hiking somewhere near Half Moon Bay, so we decided on Rancho Corral de Tierra due to the relatively short distance. The downside was that it was windy with no protection from the sun. The upside was that because it was sunny, the views of Half Moon Bay were amazing on the way down the Clipper Ridge Trail. The highlight of the trail were the blackberries that lined the trail—these berries are just so much more delicious than the ones sold in stores. If you haven’t tried them off the vine, I highly recommend this trail in late-May/early-June just for the fruit.
